Automatic gearboxes have been quite popular in India in recent years due to the convenience they provide in congested traffic circumstances. Even while most car owners still like manual gearboxes, automatic transmission usage is accelerating.

Due to its convenience in traffic, where drivers are forced to swap gears and press the clutch often, automatic transmission technology has seen an increase in demand, sales, and popularity in recent years. There are plenty of automatic gearbox technologies available in India, including AMT, CVT, AT, DCT, and others.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a crossover and high-riding hatchback hybrid. Although the car’s general stance and body design give the impression that it is a mini SUV, it is not an SUV in the traditional sense. Targeting the sub-compact SUV market, Ignis is distributed via the exclusive Nexa retail network. There are twelve trim options for the Tata Punch AMT, and eleven of them are priced under ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom). With the exception of the flagship Creative AMT DT trim, the remaining options range in price from ₹7.50 lakh to ₹9.35 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Exter

In 2023, Hyundai debuted the Exter, a small SUV, in India. It is a feature-rich SUV with manual and automatic transmission options. The SUV with AMT is offered in six distinct trim levels, five of which are under ₹10 lakh. 

The Exter’s 1.2-liter Kappa petrol engine produces 113.8 Nm of maximum torque and 82 bhp of peak power. It also comes with a petrol-CNG option. Among the many first-in-class factory-fitted features of the most reasonably priced Hyundai SUV in India are paddle shifters.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

The Fronx is a crossover that is based on the high-end hatchback Baleno and is offered for sale through the Nexa retail outlet. It can be purchased with an automatic, manual, or AMT powertrain. The Fronx AGS and AMT variants range in price from ₹8.88 to ₹9.28 lakh (ex-showroom). The crossover’s powertrain options are a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, a 1.2-liter petrol engine, and a 1.2-liter petrol-CNG engine.

Renault Kiger

Both manual and clutchless automatic transmission options are offered for the SUV. Six distinct trim options are offered for the AMT variant of the SUV, with prices ranging from ₹7.10 lakh to ₹9.53 lakh (ex-showroom). Three distinct transmission options are offered for the Renault Kiger SUV: manual, AMT, and CVT.
