Toyota has unveiled the brand-new, sixth-generation RAV4 in Tokyo, featuring a host of upgrades and a significantly improved design. The new model adopts the brand’s latest design language, includes a sportier GR Sport variant, and receives updates from hybrid powertrains to the infotainment system.
Toyota RAV4: Design
The new RAV4 initially gives the impression that it’s been hanging out with the Land Cruiser. Staying true to its off-road heritage, it now has a more muscular and boxier stance than before, complemented by pronounced wheel arches. Like the latest Camry, it features Toyota’s signature “Hammerhead” lighting design at both the front and rear. Depending on the market, wheel sizes range from 17 to 19 inches.
Toyota RAV4: Interior
There’s a noticeable improvement in the cabin’s layout and overall quality. Toyota has refreshed everything from the steering wheel to the dashboard. A new 12.9-inch touchscreen running Toyota’s all-new Arene operating system is at the center. This OS will form the backbone of future Toyota infotainment systems worldwide, promising better feature integration and faster software updates.
Toyota also claims the RAV4 will support over-the-air (OTA) updates for entertainment and safety functions. The rear-approach monitor is highlighted and designed to enhance safety during highway merging. In the future, Toyota may offer downloadable performance profiles inspired by other Lexus and Toyota models.

More Powertrain Options, Including a Quicker Plug-in Hybrid
Under the hood, Toyota offers a wide range of powertrains. The RAV4 will be available in plug-in hybrid (PHEV), strong hybrid, and gasoline variants, depending on the market.
The standout is the new PHEV, which produces 268 hp in FWD and 304 hp in AWD configuration, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds. It features a 22.7 kWh battery that supports up to 100 km of pure electric range (WLTP) and can be fast-charged from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
In Europe, strong hybrid options include 183 hp (FWD) and 191 hp (AWD) variants. Meanwhile, Japan receives a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 171 hp, paired with standard AWD.
GR Sport and Adventure Trims Add More Character
Toyota has introduced a GR Sport variant for buyers who want a sportier-looking SUV. It features sport seats, aluminum pedals, GR badging, a wider track, stiffer suspension, and 20-inch alloy wheels. In some markets, an additional Adventure trim is available, bringing a more rugged look with a square grille and beefier wheel cladding.
