Volkswagen-backed Scout Motors has revealed its first two electric vehicles, the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup, set for release in 2027. While originally focused exclusively on EVs, Scout has introduced an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) option to its lineup in response to slower-than-expected EV adoption. The EREVs will feature an internal combustion engine as a range-extending generator, providing additional miles when the battery depletes. According to Scout CEO Scott Keogh, this pivot provides flexibility, allowing the brand to appeal to both EV and hybrid markets while keeping the electric driving experience at the forefront.
Everything We Know So Far
The Traveler SUV and Terra pickup showcase interiors that balance ruggedness with refinement, featuring soft-touch materials and spacious cabins. Both models have expansive horizontal screens for easy access to controls and are designed for comfort and functionality on long trips or off-road adventures. The upscale yet durable interior aligns with Scoutโs original brand ethos, reinterpreted with a contemporary touch.

On the exterior, Scoutโs design team has drawn inspiration from the classic 1960s-80s Scout vehicles, resulting in an attractive blend of rugged form and modern style. The larger-than-average Traveler SUV and Terra pickup feature a streamlined, boxy silhouette that aims to stand out in a crowded market of off-road-capable vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco, and Toyota Land Cruiser. The Terra pickup enters the full-size truck category, where competition includes the electric offerings from Ford, GM, and Ram.
Performance is a key focus for Scoutโs new vehicles. The fully electric models are engineered with an 800-volt architecture, allowing rapid charging at up to 350 kilowatts and offering bi-directional charging to act as portable power sources. These EVs boast nearly 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds. Range expectations are around 300 miles on a full charge for the all-electric versions, while the EREV models promise over 500 miles. This combination of power and range positions the Traveler and Terra as compelling options in the EV and hybrid markets.
Reservations for the Traveler and Terra opened recently, with initial pricing projected between $50,000 and $60,000.
