Land Cruiser

We thought the Land Cruiser was gone forever—mostly because Toyota told us so—but surprise! They were kidding. The off-road champ is back. It shares a platform with the recently redesigned Lexus GX and has a similar boxy appearance, but if you’re wondering how efficient the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will be, given its gas-electric hybrid four-cylinder powertrain, you’re in luck. Toyota appears to have finally released its own estimates—so, how does the new 4×4 stack up against other similarly purposed hybrid SUVs?

2024 Land Cruiser: Exterior

The 2024 Land Cruiser is a 250-series model that sits between the old 200 and the newer 300-series and is only sold overseas.

Still, the new Cruiser’s blocky shape and nostalgic styling make it the most visually appealing of the bunch. The new LC is 1.2 inches shorter than its predecessor, measuring 193.7 inches long, but both have an identical 111.2-inch wheelbase. Both versions are 78 inches wide, but the new one is just under an inch shorter, measuring 73.2 inches tall.

Off-road specifications for the new Land Cruiser include an approach angle of 30 degrees, break-over and departure angles of 25 and 22 degrees, respectively. While its predecessor had a better approach angle of 32 degrees, its break-over and departure angles are both one degree lower. The new version has up to 8.7 inches of ground clearance, which is a few tenths less than before.

2024 Land Cruiser Interior

The top two trim levels include additional standard equipment, such as a 12.3-inch digital display, up from a 7-inch display in 1958.

The 1958 trim’s options are fairly basic. It is only available in three colors: black, meteor shower, and ice caps. All of this is combined with a black cloth interior. There are no additional options, but there are numerous accessories to choose from.

The roof rack costs the most, $1,400. You can also add rock rails, cargo mats, body-side molding, and a dash cam. Only a $90 TRD panel air filter is available as a performance accessory.

Moving up to the mid-level Land Cruiser offers a plethora of interior and exterior color options. There are seven exterior color options available, including Trail Dust and Heritage blue, each with a grayscape roof for $350. A black SofTex interior is standard, but you can also choose black leather, java leather, or java SofTex.

Each of these requires the $4,600 Premium Package. The package includes a 14-speaker JBL audio system, a digital key, a power moonroof, a center console cool box, a digital rearview mirror, a wireless charging pad, a head-up display, lane-keeping assist, and front cross-traffic alert. The power moonroof can be added as a standalone option for $800. Upgrade to 20-inch wheels for $1,200.

Purchasing the Top Dog First Edition includes almost all of the optional items from the mid-grade Land Cruiser. The First Edition includes leather seats, wireless charging, a console cool box, rock rails, JBL audio, and other features as standard. The accessory list is comparable to the other trim levels. The First Edition will be limited to only 5,000 units. So, if you want one of those, get on the configurator right away and add your name to your dealer’s list.

2024 Land Cruiser: Performance

The powertrain is identical across all Land Cruiser trim levels. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid generates 326 net combined horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. This power is transmitted to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Each trim level includes a full-time 4WD system with rear and center locking differentials. They all have the same tow rating of 6,000 pounds.

The only notable mechanical difference is that the Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser First Edition trims include a Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM), which increases suspension flex and helps the front tires stay on the ground. So, if you want all of the mechanical features, you don’t have to go with the most expensive trim. However, if you prefer the rectangular headlight design, you must purchase the middle-grade Land Cruiser, as the 1958 and First Edition both have round headlights.

2024 Land Cruiser: Final Price & Launch Date
