Honda CBR650R & CB650R E

Honda has brought the E-Clutch variants of the CB650R and CBR650R middleweight motorcycles to India. Ex-showroom, the new versions cost ₹9.60 lakh and ₹10.40 lakh respectively, an increase of ₹40,000 over the standard models.

What’s New with the E-Clutch System?

The E-Clutch variants’ highlight features Honda’s proprietary electronic clutch system that permits gear shifts, stops, and take-offs without the need to engage a clutch lever. The system provides additional convenience, particularly in heavy stop-and-go traffic, while allowing newer riders extra help when needed.

From a mechanical standpoint, the CB650R and CBR650R motorcycles with the E-Clutch option are exactly the same. Still running the 649cc, liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine with 95hp at 12,000rpm and 63Nm at 9,500rpm. With only the method of clutch engagement being different, the 6-speed gearbox and its ratios are the same as on the standard models. The E-Clutch mechanism just adds 2.8kg to the total weight of the motorcycles.

Apart from the extra weight and new clutch technology, the E-Clutch versions have the same chassis and features as the regular models. The two colour choices for the CB650R and CBR650R E-Clutch variants are black and red. Bookings are now open at all Honda BigWing dealerships.

A Rare Offering in India

Now that these models are available, Honda joins a very small group of manufacturers in India offering bikes with clutch-assist systems. The BMW R 1300 GS models are the only other motorcycles with such a feature available currently. Riders seeking a mix of performance and ease of use will find the CB650R and CBR650R E-Clutch models unique.
