Audi A5

The A4 replacement from Audi has been unveiled and is now known as the Audi A5. In contrast to the sleek, four-door coupe that was the previous generation A5, the new model is available in sedan and estate body styles. The German manufacturer’s new naming scheme for its upcoming models includes changing the designation from A4 to A5, with even numbers assigned to electric vehicles and odd numbers to internal combustion engines.

Audi’s new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), which takes the place of the A4’s 17-year-old MLB architecture powers the new A5. Please be aware that the Premium Platform Electric, which powers vehicles like the Porsche Macan EV and the Q6 e-tron, is unrelated to this platform. Although the A5’s engine configuration is still longitudinal, Audi says it can accept a variety of electrified powerplants. The PPC can accommodate range-extending electric vehicle powertrains, according to our sister site Autocar UK, but Audi has no plans to offer one in the A5.

The A5 is 13mm wider (1.86m) and 67mm longer (4.83m) than the departing A4 because of the new platform. Its wheelbase is 68 mm longer at 2.9 m. The A5’s design is a visual development of the A4 and incorporates certain design cues from the A6 e-tron sedan concept. Among the features are the visible exhaust tips, OLED light units with up to eight patterns, and the wide wheel arches, which the Audi designers refer to as “Quattro muscle.”

The Q6 e-tron and the new A5 have similar interior features. The big curved screen is the main attraction, of course. The 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, which holds all of the climate control and seat heating/ventilation features, and the 11.9-inch digital driver display are integrated within it. Audi offers a 10.9-inch front passenger-side touchscreen as an optional extra; it is hidden from the driver’s view by a filter.

New Audi A5 powertrain

Initial powertrain options for the A5 will be 48V mild hybrid and ICE. With the addition of a centrally located powertrain generator to the standard integrated starter generator, Audi’s innovative MHEV Plus technology allows for improved efficiency and regenerative braking in hybrid vehicles. The benefit of this system is that it produces 18kW (24Hp) and 230Nm of torque, and it can now recover up to 25kW, which is more than three times the 8kW maximum of the previous S4. OH! Audi’s 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine is available with 150Hp or 204Hp, with the Quattro AWD system being an optional feature for the latter. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder, 204Hp engine powering the A5 diesel is equipped with the MHEV Plus technology. The top of the range is the S5, which produces 367Hp from a 3.0-liter V6 engine paired with a mild hybrid system. In foreign countries, a plug-in hybrid engine is anticipated to enter the A5 lineup the following year.

New Audi A5 India launch details

The current version of the A4 has been available for purchase in India since January 2021. The price range is currently between Rs 46.02 lakh and Rs 54.58 lakh. The September 2022 update was made. It is difficult to predict when the all-new A5 will arrive in India, but it is likely given that Audi India has had the A4 in its lineup for a long time. It is anticipated that the only body style available will be the sedan, with petrol engine options. It will compete with the Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3 Series when it is released.
