Maruti Suzuki is getting ready to introduce the eVX, the company’s first electric vehicle, as well as the fourth-generation Swift and Dzire in India. In contrast, the brand’s long-term goals call for the introduction of a compact MPV based on the Suzuki Spacia by 2026.
The Spacia-based MPV will have a different appearance in India than it has in Japan. For starters, the Japanese car’s length of 3,395mm will be extended for the India-spec variant, but it will still be a sub-four-meter model. The absence of sliding doors could be another modification because financial objectives might not permit this feature. However, the YDB MPV is probably going to keep its overall boxy shape within the interior.
Considering its larger dimensions and the Japanese version’s two rows of seats, the inside of the YDB MPV is expected to go through notable modifications over the Spacia. Given that it will be competing directly with the Renault Triber, expect an intelligently built three-row interior in a small footprint combined with a respectable equipment list. Unknown at this time is whether India will get the back seats that are similar to ottomans on the Spacia.
In Maruti Suzuki‘s lineup, the YDB will sit below the Ertiga and XL6, but it will be sold exclusively through the brand-name Nexa showrooms. The Japan-spec Spacia, being a Kei car, of course has a 660cc engine, but for India, it is expected to receive the 1.2-liter Z Series petrol engine that will make its debut on the next Swift. Options for a manual or automatic transmission are probably available.
