5-Door Thar

Mahindra has been developing the 5-door version of the Thar for over two years. It appears that the brand will unveil the 5-Door Thar SUV on August 15th. Notably, both the 3-door version of the Thar and the XUV700 were also unveiled around Independence Day.

Mahindra has extended the wheelbase of the 5-door Thar, allowing for the addition of rear doors to enhance the SUV’s practicality, facilitating easier access for rear occupants. The door handles are positioned on the C-pillars, giving the SUV a distinct three-door appearance.

Spy shots have revealed updates to the design of the Thar 5-door, including new LED circular headlights and Daytime Running Lamps, a redesigned grille, and LED tail lamps. There’s speculation that Mahindra may offer a fixed metal top option alongside the convertible soft top and fixed hard top variants available for the 3-door Thar. New alloy wheels are also expected.

The interior of the Thar 5-door is anticipated to feature a new touchscreen infotainment system from the XUV400 Pro, automatic climate control, an electric sunroof, and a new steering wheel shared with the Scorpio N.

Powertrain options for the Thar 5-door will include a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-liter diesel engine, both paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations are expected to be offered.
