BYD has launched the BYD Sealion 7 electric SUV in India, starting at Rs 48.9 lakh (Est. $56,249) for the base Premium model and increasing to Rs 54.9 lakh (Est. $63,151) for the top-spec Performance trim. BYD unveiled the SUV at Auto Expo 2025 and began accepting bookings for the Sealion 7 on the same day. The first 70 Sealion 7 units will be delivered starting March 7.

BYD Sealion 7: Exterior

The Sealion 7’s overall dimensions are more similar to a crossover than an SUV, which is emphasized by its sloping roofline and the same Ocean-X design language as the Seal electric sedan. The Sealion 7 is adorned with X-shaped components, most notably in the front bumper, headlights, and taillights, which resemble the Seal’s. The Sealion 7 comes with 19-inch alloy wheels in the Premium variant and 20-inch wheels in the top-tier Performance variant.

The dashboard arrangement and steering wheel of the Sealion 7 are also similar to those of the Seal. The cabin’s centerpiece is a 15.6-inch spinning touchscreen infotainment system, which houses most of the features and controls. The electric SUV also includes ventilated front seats, connected car technology, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, a floating digital instrument cluster, a panoramic glass roof with a sunshade, a 50W wireless phone charger, a heads-up display, a powered tailgate, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. The Premium and Performance models share the same characteristics.

Both Sealion 7 models use the same 82.56kWh LFP low-voltage battery pack, but their outputs and performance differ significantly. The Premium variant of the Sealion 7 delivers 313hp and 380Nm through its rear wheels, allowing the SUV to complete the 0-100kph run in 6.7 seconds with a WLTP-claimed range of 482km.

The Performance variant should appeal to more enthusiastic purchasers due to its 530hp and 690Nm output, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 4.5 seconds. This variant also receives all-wheel drive, but its WLTP-claimed range is reduced somewhat to 456 kilometers.

According to its body style and pricing point, the Sealion 7’s closest competitor is the Volvo C40 Recharge. If we only look at price, the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 can be considered competitors to the Sealion 7.
