BYD India plans to bring in the new BYD Sealion 7 by the first quarter of this year. The coupe-SUV will take its bow in India before its price declaration at the Auto Expo 2025, scheduled for January 17 onwards.  In addition to Sealion 7, BYD India also plans to showcase its existing fleet of electric vehicles, including the BYD Seal sedan Atto 3 SUV and BYD eMax 7 MPV.

The BYD Sealion 7 was introduced last year and is already making its presence felt in Chinese and some European markets.  Priced at $30,000 in the overseas market to rival the Tesla Model Y, BYD’s stylish coupe-SUV resembles a similar to the Seal sedan, which is already on sale in India.  It also had identical headlamps and tail lamp connections to the premium small car but a more muscular headlamp and tail lamp bumpers.  On the inside, a lot is relatively similar, even to the Seal sedan, with the standout feature being a rotating screen that has been a motif for most BYD cars.  The Sealion 7 has dimensions of about 4.8 meters long and is exported for FWD and RWD.

The Sealion 7 coupe-SUV is equipped with BYD’s cutting-edge Blade battery system and runs on the company’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo-born electric architecture. Two battery optionsโ€”82.5kWh and 91.3kWhโ€”with a maximum range of 502km are available for the SUV.

In terms of cost, the Sealion 7 will be priced higher in the Indian market than the Seal sedan, which retails for Rs 41 lakh ex-showroom. The Sealion 7 India may not have a direct competitor, but it will face off against our market’s Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. When the BYD Sealion 7 SUV is debited in India later this month, expect more information about its specifications and equipment.

Additionally, BYD India has declared that it will expand its network of showrooms in India, which presently comprises 27 cities, to 40 this year.
