Kia EV4

Kia is adding the EV4 to its electric vehicle line. It will be offered as a hatchback and a sedan, the latter being a newcomer to the brand. The carmaker has announced that the Kia EV4 sedan will launch in Korea in March 2025, but the hatchback will become available in Europe during the second half of this year.

Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song stated, “The EV4 represents an important milestone in our electrification strategy, providing sophisticated technology and a range of body styles for drivers looking for a smooth transition to electric driving.

Kia EV4: Range and Performance

Derived from Kia’s 400V Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV4 comes in two trims โ€” the standard 58.3 kWh and extended-range 81.4 kWh battery packs. Driven by a 150 kW motor positioned over the front axle, the standard does 0 โ€“ 100 kmph in 7.4 seconds and the extended range in 7.7 seconds. Kia says both are capable of a 170 mph top speed.

Its very low drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd helps it achieve a claimed best-in-class standard range of 430 km and an extended range of 630 km. Its EV4 hatchback in the long-range offers a 590 km claim as per WLTP cycles.

It charges from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes, while the EV4 has an 11 kW onboard charger that can be charged from single-phase and three-phase sources.

The EV4 is equipped with Kia’s smartphone-based Digital Key 2.0, which offers features such as engine start and remote-control functions and can be paired with a maximum of 15 devices, including an Apple Watch through the app.

The EV4’s 30-inch widescreen Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) connected car display must be the showstopper. It consists of 12.3-inch, 5.3-inch, and 12.3-inch screens and receives remote OTA updates.

The EV4 sedan and hatchback follow Kiaโ€™s latest design philosophy, blending aerodynamic efficiency with a futuristic look. The low drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd ensures a smooth and efficient drive, while sharp lines and an aggressive stance give the EV4 a bold presence on the road.

Safety

The EV4 also fits with Kia’s Highway Driving Assist (HDA 2) technology, which features ADAS. It includes Driver Attention Warning, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2, Lane Following Assist 2, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, and Remote Parking Assist Entry. It also features a 12-inch head-up display that shows speed and navigation instructions.

Kia’s Direct Grip Detection System (HODโ€”Hands-On Detection) detects touch between the steering wheel and the driver’s hand area (fingers, one hand, both hands) to check if the driver is in control of the vehicle. This makes it possible to deactivate ADAS warnings with a touch on the steering wheel.
