Porsche 911 Stinger GTR by TopCar Design

The Porsche 911 Stinger GTR is a remarkable custom 911 Turbo S 992 variant. This modified model by Russian Tuner TopCar Design is unlike any factory Porsche. TopCar Stinger GTR does not use a standard body kit that covers the original 911 body. Stinger GTR is an entirely new modification of the 911 body that uses a method of widening the body of 911s that is covered with all carbon fiber. Due to the complete body modification, Stinger GTR uses a distinct design, unlike most other modified Porsche 911s, which use a consistent design throughout the entire body. TopCar achieves a limited number of Stinger GTRs with their goal of exclusivity. The Limited Carbon Edition Stinger GTR is a 13-model run, meaning a given model has a higher average sale price, as they are essentially all handmade.

This paper will provide an analysis of the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR, including its features and design, the use of carbon fiber in its construction, the interior, mechanics, and performance of the model, as well as the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR price, cost, and availability. In addition, the modified Stinger GTR will be compared with other Porsche 911 modified cars. This research will be based on the data from TopCar and automotive journals; all efforts will be taken to provide verified facts only.

What Is the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR?

 Porsche 911 Stinger GTR?

The Porsche 911 Stinger GTR is not a factory model. It is a special aftermarket conversion. The Stinger GTR takes the 992 Turbo S and makes an extreme build with carbon fiber. TopCar replaces roughly 100% of the 911’s body panels with carbon fiber. They claim 84 individual body panels, and each is built with 4 layers (2 structural, 1 internal, and 1 external). The finished product is a totally unique build that only TopCar can make. This is the most intricate build that TopCar has completed.

TopCar has offered a number of build options for the Stinger GTR. The “Stinger GTR 3.0” kit (limited to 25 builds) covers the entire vehicle and costs €70,000. The “Limited Carbon Edition” (only 13 builds) uses fully exposed colored carbon and costs €100,000. In both options, TopCar begins the build with a factory 911 Turbo S.

The Stinger GTR, more importantly, is designed for looks and exclusivity. TopCar states that the chassis and the Turbo S body remain as is. For example, the older generation 911 Stinger GTR kits had a +60 hp option, but the new generation Stinger GTR kits use the stock Turbo S variant with the 3.8 L twin-turbo (around 640 hp). Thus, the Stinger GTR and the Turbo S claim the same performance envelope (~0-100 km/h in 2.7 s, a top speed of ~330 km/h).

Porsche 911 Stinger GTR Design and Carbon-Fibre Work

Design and Carbon-Fibre Work

The TopCar Stinger GTR Limited Carbon Edition features a brown exposed carbon fiber design and an expansive modification kit that restyles all of the lines on the 911 Turbo S body.

While the Stinger GTR maintains the Porsche 911 form, the presence is decidedly larger and more aggressive, and TopCar’s design further modifies the 911 silhouette using race-style body elements. The body modifications are further aggressive, more sculpted, and integrated into the design at the front end, including a new front-end race hood. The designs incorporate increased airflow with larger ducts and vents, increased wheel clearance, and larger rear body elements with rounded rear-end body shapes, more pronounced race design elements, and fully redesigned rear diffusers with large fixed rear race body wings.

The engine deck is fitted with integrated ventilation and an exposed carbon fiber cover.

For the Limited Carbon Edition, TopCar left the carbon fiber panels exposed and added dramatic color sections to the weave. One example features a “chocolate” brown tint, with another in black and blue. At certain angles, the vehicles appear painted, but on close inspection, the carbon fiber weave is textured. Each Stinger GTR is designed by TopCar to appear as a custom design study. To that end, TopCar will incorporate customer-requested colors of carbon for a base price of €25,000.

According to TopCar, their kit has 84 parts which fully cover 100% of the car’s surface area. Each part is made from four-layer carbon laminate panels. In actuality, this build covers the entire bumpers, hood, roof, side fenders, door skins, and even the interior trim. We have noted that TopCar will also match this kit with optional performance wheel sets and performance exhaust systems (Akrapovič or Kline). Due to the level of detail on the body kit, TopCar states that the install time is a week or more.

It is clear that the Stinger GTR’s primary focus is the craftsmanship and visual aspect. TopCar states that each carbon panel is designed and built with extreme attention to detail. TopCar also states that the carbon kit has the highest build quality and can be installed by certified shops throughout the world. The result of this body kit build gives a Porsche 911 a much more aggressive track-focused look when compared to the average street-legal kit.

Interior and Bespoke Options.

Interior and Bespoke Options.

TopCar brings the same aesthetic intensity of the Stinger GTR’s radical exterior to its highly customized, luxurious interiors. One show-stopping Limited Carbon Edition Sport showed interiors surrounded by carbon fiber, leather, and Alcantara. On this model, the brown Alcantara Leather and carbon fiber dash inserts almost mirrored the body color of the edition. Other TopCar interiors featured accents of 24-karat gold.

In addition to unique trim colors, the interiors of the 992 Stinger GTRs featured by the automotive press sport custom stitching, metallic highlights, and illuminated “Stinger” door sill plates. The instrument panel retains the 10.9-inch Porsche PCM screen, but the surrounds often receive a carbon fiber upgrade or are painted to match the vehicle exterior. The seats of the vehicle may also be upgraded to the highly coveted (18-way) adjustable Sport Seats Plus. TopCar takes great care of the level of detail of the Stinger GTR, offering a fully customized service where buyers nominate the color of the leather, the carbon weave, and the other accents.

TopCar clearly focuses on the cosmetic side of the luxury interiors, as there is no evidence of structural cage work or the removal of seating features for weight savings. The Stinger GTR also retains the modern conveniences offered by the Turbo S (which include airbags, climate control, navigation, etc.), facilitated by the highly liberal level of customization TopCar offers.

Engine, Performance, and Mechanical Basis

Engine, Performance, and Mechanical Basis

The Stinger GTR keeps the basics of the Porsche 911 Turbo S. There is an all-wheel-drive system, a PDK dual-clutch gearbox, an adaptive suspension system, and an immense set of carbon-ceramic brakes. The engine is the 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six. The Turbo S variant of this engine produces 640 PS (641 hp). It has 590 lb·ft of torque with a top speed of 330 km/h and a 0–100 km/h time of around 2.5–2.7 seconds.

TopCar does not seem to provide a new power output for the Stinger GTR and seems to suggest that it has the standard Turbo S output. Referring to Motor1, there are “no significant changes to the car’s performance or handling” with the Stinger GTR other than the cosmetic changes. This means that the Stinger GTR is a Turbo S with a body kit. (For the Stinger GTR 991 kit, TopCar used to provide an optional HP kit to increase the Turbo S output by around 60 hp.)

The Stinger GTR, with the stock Turbo S drivetrain, is still a very high-performance vehicle. While the body kit is made from a special aerodynamic body kit that helps improve airflow around the body, it still increases the weight of the car, and this is why the brakes are made from a special carbon-ceramic kit. Driving feels very different thanks to TopCar’s custom additions, which are a set of “sport-tuned” springs and dampers.

Crucially, the Stinger GTR does not belong to a new hypercar category among Porsches. At best, it represents a rework of an existing design. The GTR uses the Turbo S’ patented powertrain for speed and control and even shares its performance characteristics. There is no modification of the fixed-wing design, nor has a larger flat-six been introduced over stock. The main advantage compared to a stock Turbo S is the level of exclusivity; GTR owners have access to a performance Porsche that is not a standard build, whereas seeing a performance Porsche that is a standard build is more common and easier to achieve.

Pricing and Availability of the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR

Pricing and Availability of the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR

The price of the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR is not fixed due to the large amount of customization available. According to the published records of TopCar, a full body kit in all-carbon would run around €100,000. The Stinger GTR 3.0 kit (which is limited to a meager 25 units and includes 82 carbon panels that cover the vehicle entirely) is lower at €70,000. That price does not include the base Porsche Turbo S, which starts at €210,000 and is easily over €300,000 when options are added.

In this case, the price of the kit is just the start. The price would continue to increase due to the large number of options available. Motor1 documented many different additions, which included: colored carbon (€25,000), upgraded interior trim (€35,000), and forged wheels (€8,000). The price would also increase with the options of a high-performance titanium or Inconel exhaust, which would cost an additional €6,500 to €8,125. TopCar also documented a €50,000 advanced interior option, and forged wheels would run €9,000 to €14,000 for a set. A fully customized Stinger GTR would eviscerate the price of a base 911 Turbo S by at least several hundred thousand euros.

Availability for the Limited Carbon Edition is extremely restricted, as there will only be 13 units. Each of these will feature an exotic carbon fiber exterior. The Stinger GTR 3.0 (carbon edition) has an even tighter restriction of 25 units. Production slots for these builds are by order only, with extensive lead times for each build. Some sources have reported specific chassis numbers. For example, one of the red carbon Stinger GTRs is noted as #2 of 13. Since each build is near one-of-a-kind, the resale value is left to the market of collectors. Reports suggest that early builds of the Stinger GTR are selling for over six figures, not counting the cost of the donor Porsche.

The price for the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR is in the range of ultra-luxury supercars. As a very conservative estimate, a base price of the 911 Turbo S (costing €250–300k), for example, plus €100k for the conversion plus anywhere between €50–100k for some additional options, will put the cost at a minimum of €400–450k. Some customers may even be willing to pay more for the exclusivity. Since the company doesn’t officially publish full vehicle pricing (only pricing for their kits), we look to other confirmed builds and the article and analysis by Motor1. Overall, the price for the Stinger GTR is exponentially more than a factory-produced Porsche 911, as the level of customization for each build is through the roof.

How It Compares to Other Tuned Porsche 911s

Compares to Other Tuned Porsche 911s

In the world of custom Porsche 911s, Stinger GTR has a one-of-a-kind position. Some tuners of Porsches do very few engine changes and offer mostly minor aero changes. For example, some companies offer modifications that allow for some extra power, like TechArt. Some companies, like Singer Vehicle Design, offer full builds for classic Porsches but with full retro builds for the classic 911s. TopCar’s Stinger GTR is a bespoke build and offers much more than an incremental change for the Porsche 911.

While Stinger GTR still uses a widebody design, and other tuners of 911s like Liberty Walk, Pandem, and Vorsteiner also offer bespoke builds, the Stinger GTR goes a step beyond and offers a fully revised body. In fact, where most widebodies settle for a bolt-on design with visible hardware, the Stinger GTR has a fully modified kit with a seamless design that integrates the body with the kit.

In terms of performance, the Stinger GTR is still a long shot away from a hypercar, even from a purpose-built track car. In fact, it also would not be able to compare with a 911 GT2 RS Clubsport or a GT3 RS and would not be able to compete with those cars on a track. Also, like Singer or RUF, TopCar is a tuner and not an official car manufacturer, and they also do not offer significant engine modifications. Some of the best comparisons to the Stinger GTR would be a bespoke wild Rolls-Royce drop-top, and you are really buying this car for the one-of-a-kind exclusivity and design, and not really for the performance.

Visually speaking, tuners with aggressive 911 body kits are rare, if they exist at all. The only other somewhat comparable Porsche wide-body projects would probably be the later examples of the Gemballa Avalanche or the TechArt GTStreet RS. Even those examples are likely to use more conventional materials (fiberglass or clear-coated carbon) and are often produced in small series of around 5-10 cars. The Stinger GTR production limits of 13 or 25 units similarly classify it as extremely rare.

In summary, the uniqueness of the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR lies in the holistic nature of its bespoke car design. Rather than entering into competition with the rest of the 911s on the racetrack or imitating the aesthetics of another 911 model, the Stinger GTR personalization is taken to a whole new level. This is reflected in the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR price, with a high degree of carbon-fiber construction and bespoke customization putting this car squarely in the premium tuning category. In terms of the tuner continuum, the aesthetics of this vehicle are more in line with a bespoke Pagani or Koenigsegg car rather than simply being a tuned performance car.

Why the Porsche 911 Stinger GTR Matters

Porsche 911 Stinger GTR Matters

The Stinger GTR is a fully carbon fiber creation that looks just like a regular 911 at first glance. Although it looks that way, there are two trends in the automotive world that it shows. The first is custom ultra-luxury vehicles, in this case with extreme customization. The Stinger GTR goes far beyond the reach of limited edition Porsches. TopCar makes this GTR for the client that values rarity and the craftsmanship of the build over the performance of the vehicle.

The Stinger GTR showcases how the automotive aftermarket is not competing but is extending the factory offerings. Porsche has sold millions of the 911, but the number of TopCar builds is extremely limited. The duality of mass production and ultimate customization, pulling from a similar idea, is how modern hypercar culture works. The 911 is a car that is seen all over the world, allowing TopCar to provide a unique hypercar canvas to automotive enthusiasts.

TopCar is able to show the craftsmanship and vehicle design that harnesses the modern advances of technology to create a fully carbon fiber structure that 25 years ago would have been extremely labor-intensive. The weave, color, and fit of each body part are works of precise craftsmanship that draw the praise of automotive enthusiasts and designers alike.

Lastly, it shows the lasting flexibility of the 911. After 60 years, the 911 platform continues to be built on. Whether it’s Porsche’s GT models or an outside build, the 911’s basic structure will always be there. Not everyone may like the Stinger GTR, but it does open fans’ eyes to the 911’s body.

Conclusion

In other words, TopCar Porsche 911 Stinger GTR is an artistic expression of what the 911 Turbo S might become if there were no limitations of factory production. Neither its value lies in increased performance or speed, but rather in the pure boldness of its design. Carbonized all over the body, radical in style, with a limited edition of just a couple of vehicles, TopCar created a car for those who desire something unique.

Stinger GTR is the perfect example of what the 911 can become if there were more freedom for modification of this model. Porsche’s designers make wonderful cars, but there is a completely different philosophy of modification that TopCar uses. So the significance of this car is primarily that of a cultural artifact of extreme customization. The Stinger GTR will get its admiration (as well as criticism) in return, but for its owners it is exactly what was desired. Only a very few will have this magnificent piece of art; the rest of us can appreciate how Porsche technology combines with craftsmanship.
