Kia introduced its first pickup truck, the Kia Tasman, at the Jeddah International Motor Show, aiming to redefine the segment with cutting-edge technology and advanced design. Available in Baseline, X-Line, and X-Pro Double Cab models, the Tasman will roll out in Korea in 2025, followed by launches in Australia, Africa, and the Middle East. Designed to cater to work and lifestyle needs, the Tasman embodies Kia’s “Dive into a New Dimension” vision.

Kia’s designers took a fresh approach with Tasman’s exterior, highlighting simple yet rugged design elements emphasising power and functionality. The pickup features Kia’s “Tiger Face” grille and vertically integrated headlamps, creating a confident stance. The rear incorporates a stamped logo, tailgate handle, and high-mounted stop-lamp, combining utility with aesthetic appeal. Practical features, like corner steps, an illuminated load bed, a power outlet, and a sliding cargo floor, make the Tasman a versatile companion. Nine color options allow for customisation, including new Tan Beige and Denim Blue.

Inside, the Tasman prioritizes comfort and utility, showcasing a 12.3-inch widescreen display with a 5-inch and 12.3-inch screen for seamless control. An eight-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, dual wireless charging pads, and hidden storage bins make business and leisure convenient. The spacious cabin offers class-leading headroom, shoulder room, and a second-row legroom of 940mm, while the rear seats recline up to 30 degrees for added comfort. Sustainability also takes centre stage, with seats made from recycled PET fabric and bio-plastics used in various components. Interior trims are available in five color combinations, including unique two-tone options for the X-Line and X-Pro models.

Kia Tasman: Powertrain

The Tasman offers a versatile powertrain lineup for different markets. In Korea, the pickup will launch with a 2.5-litre petrol engine generating 281PS and 421Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Australian market will feature a 2.2-liter diesel engine delivering 210PS and 441Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds. The Middle East and African markets can choose between the petrol or diesel engines, with the option of an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.

Engineered for off-road performance, the Tasman’s AWD system includes Electronic Locking Differential, multiple drive modes, and high ground clearance on the X-Pro model. With water-fording capability up to 800mm, the Tasman is prepared for demanding terrains, backed by advanced off-road tech like Kia’s Ground View Monitor, which enhances visibility on rough ground.

The Tasman’s debut in Jeddah sets the stage for Kia’s entry into the pickup truck sector. It combines lifestyle appeal with advanced features to meet the demands of both business and leisure. With a payload capacity of 1,195kg and towing ability of 3,500kg, the Tasman showcases Kia’s ambition to bring a unique, progressive pickup to global customers in 2025.
