In Indian motorcycling, one name has endured for almost a century – Royal Enfield’s Bullet. This iconic motorcycle has become synonymous with the brand itself, a symbol of timeless design and tradition. In 2023, Royal Enfield introduced the all-new Bullet 350, a bike that pays homage to its rich heritage.
Design: A Blend Of Classic And Modern
The 2023 Bullet 350 carries a design reminiscent of the Classic 350. Especially in the Black Gold variant, it exudes an air of sophistication with its blacked-out engine and rims. However, some may argue that it closely resembles the Classic.
The 13-liter fuel tank maintains its vintage charm, with hand-painted pinstripes for authenticity. The single-piece seat accommodates two comfortably, boasting a rider-friendly height of 805mm.
While updates to the rear mudguard and tail lamp console could have set the Bullet 350 apart from its sibling, the Royal Enfield Classic 350.
Comfort And Ergonomics: Enhancing The Ride
The Bullet 350’s design changes extend to comfort and ergonomics. The handlebar has been adjusted for a more upright riding position, ensuring comfort during extended journeys. The single-piece seat, generously padded, offers a plush experience, a contrast to the Classic’s split seats that can become less comfortable over time.
Performance
Built on the new J-Platform, the Bullet 350 houses the familiar 349cc air-oil cooled single-cylinder engine, also found in the Meteor, Classic, and Hunter models.
With fuel injection, it delivers 20.2bhp at 6,100rpm and 27Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The bike features 41mm forks in the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Disc brakes, measuring 300mm in the front and 270mm at the back, ensure efficient braking.
Dual Channel ABS adds to safety. Spoked wheels accommodate a 19-inch front tire and an 18-inch rear tire, both of the tubed type.
The Riding Experience
No longer equipped with a Kickstarter, the Bullet 350 starts with updated switchgear. At idle, the engine runs smoothly at 1,000rpm, with minimal vibrations.
The distinctive thump remains, albeit subdued. Performance-wise, the new engine offers effortless high-speed cruising, reaching 90kmph with ease and maintaining stability at 100kmph.
While it may not cruise at 40kmph in top gear as purists might expect, it comfortably cruises at 50kmph, making long rides enjoyable.
Modern disc brakes enhance stopping power, providing reliable braking performance. The Bullet 350 displays agility around corners, making it a joy to ride. Its good ride quality ensures comfort for both the rider and the pillion.
The 2023 Bullet 350 represents a notable upgrade, delivering a smoother ride while retaining its retro charm. It strikes a balance between classic aesthetics and modern amenities, with prices ranging from Rs 1.73 lakh to Rs 2.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
However, the Bullet 350’s close resemblance to the Classic 350 poses a challenge. A more distinctive retro design and features would have set it apart, granting it a unique identity in the Royal Enfield lineup.
Nevertheless, the Bullet 350 remains a capable and pleasant motorcycle. For those considering a single-channel bike, it provides nearly everything the single-channel Classic does at a more affordable price.
