Mahindra has started testing what appears to be the next version of the Bolero, which is one of India’s most well-known and popular SUVs. The latest spy photos obtained by MotoWagon reveal a prototype that is highly camouflaged. These photos suggest that the design, structure, and technology will be significantly improved. The new model will likely be one of the first to be built on Mahindra’s new New Flexible Architecture (NFA) platform. This platform will handle a variety of powertrains, such as gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric drivetrains.
2026 Mahindra Bolero: Design
Even though the SUV is covered in camouflage, its general shape shows that Mahindra plans to keep the Bolero’s simple, boxy look. The body looks stronger and more squared off than it did before. In spy pictures, the front lights are round LEDs, and the backlights are thin, horizontally designed lights that are put vertically.
The back hatch looks flat and straight, which could be for mounting a spare wheel like on older Bolero models. Larger alloy wheels, new-style side mirrors, and sharper creases along the doors and fenders are some of the other changes that can be seen. These changes give it a more modern yet tough look. The flush-style door handles are a unique feature that suggests a more high-end look, possibly to compete with cars like the future Tata Sierra.
2026 Mahindra Bolero: Built on a New Platform for the Future
The upcoming Bolero is expected to be the first model to use Mahindra’s brand-new NFA platform. This is a modular, single-piece base that can work with a range of engine types, from gas-powered to hybrid and fully electric. This platform will finally be the base for a number of Mahindra’s SUVs sold in India and around the world.
Automotive cars built on the NFA platform will likely be made at Mahindra’s brand-new Chakan plant, which can initially make about 1.2 lakh units per year. Mahindra is going to show off an idea of the NFA platform on August 15, 2025.
Powertrains and Features: What to Expect
Official information about the engine choices is still being kept secret, but the new Bolero is likely to keep the updated diesel engine options and could also get a gasoline-hybrid version. Mahindra is also expected to release a Bolero model that runs on electricity only in the future.
In terms of features, the SUV is about to take a huge step forward. It should have current features like an infotainment system with a touchscreen, power windows, high-tech LED lighting, and safety features like ABS and airbags. High-end models may also come with extras like an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) and a panoramic sunroof.

Launch Timeline and Market Positioning
The current generation, Bolero, keeps doing well, especially in Tier 2 towns and rural India, because it is durable and not too expensive. Instead of replacing it entirely, Mahindra might put the next-generation Bolero a little higher than the current one. This way, the current one could still be sold as a cheaper choice.
The new Bolero should come out sometime in 2026 after Mahindra finishes testing and rolling out the base. The price hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s probably going to be more than the current model, which costs around โน9.9 lakh (USD 11,800). The electric version is likely to sell for more than that.
As the Bolero name is already very popular in India, Mahindra is betting a lot that this update will make it even more popular without turning off its current customers.
