Honda Civic Type R

Honda is set to introduce the Civic Type R in India, as per the sources. This is not just any ordinary sedan; it’s a high-performance hatchback designed for excitement and boasts the title of the fastest front-wheel-drive production car at the Nรผrburgring.

By launching this model, Honda aims to capitalize on the expanding performance car market in India, especially following the impressive debut of the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which sold out quickly despite its premium pricing.

Honda Civic Type R: Design

The 2025 Honda Civic Type R’s appearance matches its speed. It has a prominent wide grille border, which captures an aggressive sporty bumper, alongside a front lip below that behaves like a spoiler. From the back, you can still spot smoked tail lights. However, at the rear, you will notice classic Honda features with a big wing and bold diffuser setup. One standout feature is the center-placed exhaust system with triple exits, each having active valves that adapt the exhaust sound based on the driver’s behavior.

Moreover, other features include 19-inch black alloys that complete the look perfectly.

Upon entering, the first thing that tells you this isn’t a regular Civic is the steering wheel, which has a red Honda logo. That feeling continues in the rest of the cabin, which has red sports suede seats and contrasting trim.

But it’s not just for aesthetics. The Type R also has a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with physical volume control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, phone charging pads, cruise control, and climate control, all integrated seamlessly.

Completing the sporty look are the leather steering wheel and the shift knob, which is made from aluminum.

Dimensions and Practicality

The Civic Type R is a decently sized hatchback with a length of just under 4.6 meters and a width of almost 1.9 meters. It has a height of roughly 1.4 meters, a 2.7-metre wheelbase, and a ground clearance of around 122mm, as seen in US models. Take care while driving over larger speed breakers.

The car’s practicality includes a 410-litre boot and a 47-litre fuel tank, enough space for the weekday routine or weekend getaways.

Honda Civic Type R: Engine

The Civic Type R has a power output of 325 bhp at 6,500 rpm, torque of 420 Nm between 2,600 and 4,000 rpm, and a redline of around 7,000 rpm from its 2.0-litre VTEC turbocharged petrol engine. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission with rev-matching technology.

Performance-wise, it is no slouch either, with a top speed of 275 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 5.4 seconds.

Braking is handled by Brembo 4-piston calipers with large vented disc brakes 350 mm at the front and 305 mm at the rear. It rides on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres and features an advanced suspension setup with dual-axis MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link system at the rear, supported by an Adaptive Damper System for precise control and handling.

Expected Pricing and Rivals

The Civic Type R from Honda will compete with the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which was launched in India for โ‚น53 lakh, close to $63,000. While Honda has not confirmed the pricing, it is most likely to be in the same ballpark.

The question on many lips is whether Honda will bear the cost of providing the fully loaded variant or whether they will modify it a bit to lower expenses for Indian consumers. Regardless, this hatchback is going to be another epic addition to India’s collection.
