MG Windsor Pro

JSW MG Motor India is all set to launch the new Windsor Pro on May 6. Positioned above the standard Windsor EV, the Pro variant will bring several upgrades, including a larger battery pack, additional technology features, and refreshed styling elements. The official pricing of the MG Windsor Pro will be announced after its launch, but it is expected to command a premium over the current Windsor EV lineup.

Since its introduction, the Windsor EV has emerged as one of MG’s most successful electric vehicles in India. The upcoming Pro variant aims to build on that success by offering greater range and more premium features, making it an attractive option for buyers looking for a practical long-range electric vehicle.

MG Windsor Pro: Bigger Battery, Same Power

The biggest upgrade in the Windsor Pro comes in the form of a larger battery pack. While the current Windsor EV is powered by a 38kWh battery, the new Pro variant will receive a significantly larger 50.6kWh battery pack.

This battery is similar to the one used in the Wuling Cloud EV sold in international markets such as Indonesia. With the larger battery, the India-spec Windsor Pro is expected to deliver a claimed driving range of around 460 km on the CLTC testing cycle. In comparison, the existing 38kWh Windsor EV offers an ARAI-certified range of 332 km.

Despite the increase in battery capacity, MG is expected to retain the existing electric motor setup. The Windsor Pro will likely continue with a front-wheel-drive configuration powered by a single electric motor producing 136 hp and 200 Nm of torque.

This approach allows MG to improve driving range without significantly altering the vehicle’s performance characteristics, ensuring a familiar driving experience for customers.

Real-World Range

One of the key strengths of the current Windsor EV has been its real-world efficiency. Independent tests have shown that the vehicle can achieve an efficiency figure of approximately 8.1 km/kWh, resulting in a real-world range of around 308 km. This is only slightly below its officially claimed range, highlighting the efficiency of the powertrain.

For comparison, the Tata Nexon EV with its 45kWh battery pack delivers a real-world range of approximately 350 km and records an efficiency figure of around 7.79 km/kWh.

Given the larger 50.6kWh battery in the Windsor Pro, industry expectations suggest that the real-world driving range could approach 400 km under typical conditions. Such a figure would significantly enhance the vehicle’s appeal for buyers who frequently undertake longer highway journeys or intercity travel.

Charging performance is also expected to remain competitive. The standard Windsor EV can gain enough charge in around 35 minutes of DC fast charging to provide approximately 232 km of claimed driving range. Similar or potentially improved charging capabilities are expected in the Pro variant.

MG Windsor Pro: Features and Design

Beyond the battery upgrade, the Windsor Pro is expected to introduce several new features aimed at enhancing comfort, safety, and convenience.

Reports suggest that the Pro variant may receive an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging functionality, redesigned alloy wheels, and a powered tailgate. These additions would position the Windsor Pro as a more premium offering within MG’s electric vehicle portfolio.

Minor exterior and interior styling revisions are also anticipated, helping distinguish the Pro model from the standard Windsor EV.

Windsor EV Sales Performance in India

The Windsor EV has played a major role in strengthening MG’s position in India’s electric vehicle market. Since its launch in September 2024, the model has recorded impressive sales numbers.

Between September 2024 and March 2025, MG sold 19,394 units of the Windsor EV, averaging nearly 2,700 units per month. The model has consistently challenged and often outperformed key rivals, including the Tata Nexon EV, which had long dominated the segment.

With a larger battery, improved range, and a richer feature list, the Windsor Pro is expected to attract even more buyers. While prices are likely to increase slightly over the current Windsor EV range of ₹14 lakh to ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom), the additional equipment and enhanced usability could make the premium worthwhile for many customers.
