Tata Motors is gearing up for an exciting addition to its lineup, the Tata Punch EV. The carmaker is set to reveal the price of this electric vehicle (EV) in late October, creating a buzz in the automotive world.
The Punch EV strategically follows the Nexon EV facelift and will fill the gap between the Tiago EV and the Nexon EV in Tata’s EV range. This expansion offers diverse options to cater to the preferences of EV enthusiasts.
In terms of competition, the Punch EV targets the entry-level EV segment, taking on the Citroen eC3. Positioned just below the Nexon EV MR and above the Tiago EV, Tata Motors is marketing it as an SUV alternative to the popular Tigor EV sedan, particularly in the X-Press T fleet segment.
The Punch EV is expected to incorporate Tata’s Ziptron technology, possibly making it the first Tata EV with a front-mounted charging socket on the bumper. Discussions include additional features such as four-wheel disc brakes, unique alloy wheels, and styling differentiators from its petrol counterpart.
Inside, speculation surrounds a new two-spoke steering wheel, similar to the one introduced in the Nexon facelift. Whether the Punch EV adopts the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system from the Nexon remains uncertain.
Built on the ALFA platform with Tata’s gen-2 EV architecture, the Punch EV signifies a shift from internal combustion to electric power. It will feature a liquid-cooled battery and a potent permanent magnet synchronous motor powering the front wheels. Similar to other Tata EVs, it may offer two battery sizes and versatile charging options.
When it arrives in late October, the Punch EV will compete with the Citroen eC3, priced between Rs 11.50-12.43 lakh. Tata Motors aims to position the Punch EV as an attractive SUV alternative to the Tigor EV, which falls in the price range of Rs 12.49-13.75 lakh. More details will emerge closer to the launch date.
Tata Motors is expanding its EV offerings, and the Punch EV promises to be an intriguing addition to the market. Stay tuned for updates as the launch date approaches!
