Suzuki Swift AllGrip FX

The Suzuki Swift, a familiar and much-loved hatchback on Indian roads, has taken an unexpected turn in the Netherlands with the launch of the Swift AllGrip FX. Known for its nimble handling and compact size, perfect for city driving, the Swift has now been transformed into a more rugged, off-road-capable machine, this new variant introduces all-wheel-drive capability along with a range of enhancements aimed at outdoor adventure seekers.

The design of the Swift AllGrip FX incorporates functional attributes with a subtle rugged flair. A trail LED light bar has been seamlessly integrated into the front grille to boost visibility in low-light conditions. Black alloy wheels and AllGrip amplify the adventurous facet, while high-gloss black trims around the wheel arches add to a rugged appearance. It gets an extra edge on practicality with a Thule roof rack to fit extra equipment on the vehicle roof, such as extra wheels and snow tracks.

The increase in practicality is amplified further on the rear bumper with a rubber protective trim and also by all-season tires, with measurements reading 196/55R16, which strike a balance between urban comfort and off-road grip.

It retains the familiar cabin layout of the Indian Swift but injects some premium and outdoorsy ingredients into the mix. While rubber floor mats ensure a quick cleanup from off-road outings, leather seat upholstery heightens the perception of premium. It should also be noted that Suzuki included a Dometic cool box and an additional storage box to make the vehicle more usable for long road trips or outdoor getaways.

AWD System

The most distinctive thing about AllGrip FX is the all-wheel-drive system; it is rare in compact European hatchbacks. The AllGrip system borrows from Suzuki’s experience with the kei car market in Japan. It uses a viscous coupling that automatically sends power to the rear wheels when the front wheels lose traction. As such, this intelligent system contributes significantly to stability and control during slippery conditions, enabling the Swift to handle more than paved roads.

Specs and price

Powering the Swift AllGrip FX under the hood is the same 1.2-liter naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine that is common to all global variants. Paired with a 12V micro-hybrid system, this setup generates 82 bhp. It will be mated to a five-speed manual.

Not performance-oriented, this combination is really fuel-efficient and optimally intended for mixed driving conditions. The entry point for the standard front-wheel-drive Swift is โ‚ฌ22,299 or thereabouts โ‚น21.65 lakh. However, for the competent AllGrip FX version, the price goes up to โ‚ฌ28,449 or about โ‚น27.62 lakh, thus marking it as a unique niche offering in the compact hatchback segment with a distinct appeal.
