While it may be unexpected to see a bike from Skoda today, the Czech automaker actually began its journey with motorcycles and bicycles under the Laurin & Klement name, making this a nod to its two-wheeler roots.
Reviving a Legacy: Laurin & Klement Slavia B Concept
The Laurin & Klement Slavia B Concept aims to bring those reflections into the present day by continuing with a modern take on Skoda’s iconic vehicles. Though the concept bike will not go into series production, it stands as a fascinating homage to the history of the company with regard to motorcycles. It is a testament to the aspirations of the automaker to revive the Laurin & Klement label that still holds historical value for the company.
A Look Back at the 1899 Slavia B
Original in type and minimalist in design, the Slavia B of 1899 was powered by a simple 240cc air-cooled engine yielding 1.75 hp, allowing a maximum speed of 40 km/h. Notably, the almost unique feature for that day was the flat belt drive system with no gearbox or pedals for auxiliary propulsion. Only 540 units of this pioneering bike were ever produced.

The Modern Interpretation: Laurin & Klement Slavia B Concept
Designed by Frenchman Romain Bucaille, who previously worked on Skoda car exteriors, the Slavia B Concept embodies the characteristic silhouette of early Laurin & Klement models. Bucaille’s modern interpretation, however, has left the engine space empty and floating, opting for a reinterpretation of the Laurin & Klement logo. The front end of the bike honors Václav Laurin’s legacy of motorcycles known for their stability and handling.
A Tribute to Skoda’s Two-Wheeler Origins
Though the Slavia B Concept will not go into production, it provides a fresh perspective on Skoda’s rich history and its exploration of unusual and creative ways to honor its past. It’s a fitting tribute to the brand’s legacy while showcasing its commitment to innovation in the modern era.
