Citroen has officially unveiled the second generation of the much-anticipated C5 Aircross SUV, which now introduces hybrid and all-electric drivetrain options. Designed as a more global flagship in Citroen’s portfolio, the new C5 Aircross is larger than ever and retains its concept design presented to the public back in 2024. Comfort, in particular, for rear-seat passengers is at the very heart of this SUV.
2025 Citroen C5 Aircross: Design
The 2025 Citroen C5 Aircross is a car that not only shares the concept with which it has been closely related but also takes cues from the Citroen Oli concept. The SUV creates a surreal image of sharp lines with smooth surfaces endowed with slim headlamps flanked by three-piece C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The front bumper shows off a dual-tone blanked-out finish with sleek horizontal slats, while the lower air intake is all blacked out too.
The concept’s flush door handles have been replaced by normal pull-type handles on the sides. Heavy cladding covers the muscular wheel arches, while the toned-down 20-inch alloy wheels sport the petal-like pattern. The D-pillar gives the roof a floating look, while bold shoulder lines add character. C-shaped 3D-effect tail-lamps, along with a connecting band with the Citroen logo and the rear bumper with gloss and matte highlights, complete the rear look.
Size-wise, the SUV has gained 150 mm in length, now measuring 4,652 mm. More interestingly, the wheelbase has been extended by 600 mm, which immediately converts into more rear legroom.
2025 Citroen C5 Aircross: Interior and Features
The new C5 Aircross interiors are a completely new design with inspirations drawn from decorations. The dashboard presents a large portrait-oriented touchscreen. The cabin has padded foam fabric like a new sofa and can be had in light and dark color schemes. The infotainment system has physical controls with fixed status bars, programmable widgets, and quick access to climate settings. Below are physical buttons on the center console. Slim AC vents blend seamlessly with a band flowing across the dash.

Other features include a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and an optional head-up display. Citroen has branded the rear section as the C Zen Lounge. The front seats offer commendable comfort, with added lower back padding and body-cradling upper cushioning such that it feels like a shawl. Electrically adjustable side bolsters add another touch of comfort.
The rear section gets a legroom increase of an additional 51 millimeters and headroom improvement of 68 millimeters. The backrest can also be reclined anywhere between 21 and 33 degrees. Other conveniences comprise rear dual cup holders and USB-C ports on the rear center console.
Powertrain
The new C5 Aircross is based on Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform and offers hybrid and electric powertrains.The mild hybrid uses a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine developing 134 horsepower with a 12-horsepower electric motor. The batteries, which are 0.9 kWh, are placed below the driver’s seat with the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
While the plug-in hybrid pairs a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine to the 125-horsepower electric motor, resulting in an overall output of 195 horsepower. The variant comes with a 21 kWh battery providing 85 kilometers of pure electric driving.
For the all-electric powertrain, there are two options: one with a 73 kWh battery giving 520 kilometers of range with a front-mounted motor of 213 horsepower and another with a larger 97 kWh battery offering 680 kilometers and a stronger 233-horsepower front motor.
Launch Timeline
Deliveries for the all-new Citroen C5 Aircross will commence in Europe in the second half of this year. Meanwhile, the older generation model remains on sale in India as a completely knocked down import with a diesel engine. It is yet to be confirmed when the new generation will arrive in India and with which powertrain options.
