The brand-new Mini Cooper S hatchback from Mini is available in India for a starting price of Rs. 44.90 lakh ex-showroom. The classic hatchback that has been around since 1959 is back in style with this fourth-generation model, the last incarnation to include a combustion engine. The new Cooper S is now available in India in a 3-door configuration; globally, there is also a 5-door variant; later this year, an all-electric Cooper S will be added to the roster. In September of this year, we will see the new Cooper S and Countryman Electric launch.
Mini Cooper S: Exterior Design
The new Cooper S builds upon Mini’s signature design elements with its bigger octagonal front grille and circular headlamps (without the bezels). There’s no chrome to be seen, the prominent front and rear fenders are still identifiable, and there’s a lot of plastic paneling covering the wheel arches. The tail-lights have received a complete redesign with a new triangular shape and are connected by a black plastic band on the tail gate.
The blacked-out pillars give the roof a floating aspect, while the glasshouse has essentially not changed. The car’s front and rear bumpers are devoid of fog lamps and air intakes, making them noticeably cleaner than those of its predecessor.
Mini Cooper S: Interior and Features
It has a very basic appearance because the instrument cluster is no longer present inside. The jumbled pile of physical buttons on the center console has been replaced with a single band of toggle controls, and the AC vents are elegantly integrated into the dashboard. Oh! The centerpiece of this configuration is unquestionably the new 9.4-inch round OLED touchscreen, which includes the HVAC controls in addition to other settings linked to the car. It runs the most recent version of the Android operating system for Mini, which was developed in association with Samsung. The previous Cooper’s screen was a traditional landscape device, although it still had a circular infotainment enclosure. The cabin has a distinct flair because to the abundance of textured surfaces throughout.
Mini Cooper S: Powertrain and Specs
A significantly modified version of the previous model is the foundation for the new Cooper S. The hatchback’s 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine remains under the hood. Still, its outputs have been increased from 178 horsepower and 280 Nm to 204 horsepower and 300 Nm. The engine is connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which sends power to the front wheels; paddle shifters are not included for manual control. Mini says it can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.
The Cooper S is a luxury hatchback with two doors. Therefore, it has yet to have any direct competitors in India. However, its electric brother will arrive later this year. The Cooper Electric is built on a born-electric basis and has nothing to do with this petrol version.
