The new CLE is based on Mercedes’ Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform, which is shared with the existing C-Class and the incoming new-generation E-Class. This makes it longer than previous C- and E-Class coupes. The CLE shares stylistic features with the outgoing E-Class coupe and Cabriolet, including a wide grille with a shark-nose impression, a tall bonnet, and an automated, multi-layered fabric hood that folds neatly into the trunk. In the Indian market, it is available in AMG Line specification, which includes a few sporty features such as the bumper.

It has the same layout as the C-Class, with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch portrait-style infotainment display. It has a 2+2 seating configuration, with newly designed front seats incorporating standard headrests, heating, and four-way lumbar support. According to Mercedes, the CLE is the first Cabriolet to come standard with separate head airbags for the back occupants. It says that the CLE’s soft top can open and close in 20 seconds at up to 60 kph speeds.

The CLE Cabriolet has been produced in India in 300 form, which means it has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine mated with a 48 Volt mild-hybrid system that produces 258 hp and 400 Nm of peak torque. The engine is connected to a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission as standard. Mercedes claims the CLE Cabriolet can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 6.6 seconds before reaching 250 kph.

Despite the two additional rear seats, the CLE Cabriolet faces competition from the BMW Z4, priced at Rs 90.90 lakh.
