Mercedes E53 AMG

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the E53 Hybrid 4Matic+, the latest addition to its E-Class lineup, a performance-oriented sedan and estate developed by AMG. This new model, with its aggressive design language, refined chassis, and impressive power output of up to 603 hp (450 kW / 612 PS), establishes a new standard for hybrid performance vehicles.

The E53 is positioned just below the upcoming E63 performance flagship (which will also feature a PHEV setup), and it represents a significant leap forward in terms of power and performance over its predecessor.

One of the E53 Hybrid 4Matic+’s standout features is its innovative plug-in hybrid powertrain. The system combines a powerful 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing 443 hp (330 kW / 449 PS) and a single electric motor producing 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS), which is integrated into the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission.

This configuration produces a total of 577 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, which is distributed to all four wheels via the fully variable 4Matic+ system. For those looking for more power, the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package unlocks 603 hp when the Race Start mode is engaged.

Mercedes E53 AMG: Performance

In terms of performance, the E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ is no slouch, claiming to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds and 3.9 seconds for the estate variant. With the optional AMG Driver’s Package, the sedan’s top speed is electronically limited to 280 kmph, while the estate’s top speed is 275 kmph.

Despite its performance capabilities, the E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ maintains its environmentally friendly credentials. The vehicle can run entirely on electric power, albeit at a limited top speed of 140 kmph. The battery pack has a usable capacity of 21.22 kWh and a zero-emission range of 90-101 km on the WLTP cycle. The optional 60 kW DC fast charger can charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes.

In terms of handling and dynamics, the E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ has a number of AMG enhancements. These include a stiffer chassis, a sporty suspension setup with adaptive damping, a high-performance braking system with larger brakes, and standard rear-axle steering.

The AMG Dynamic Plus package improves performance with an electronically controlled rear axle locking differential, larger front composite brakes, dynamic engine mounts, and the Race Start function.

Mercedes E53 AMG: Aggressive Styling with Plush Interiors

The E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ stands out visually with its illuminated AMG grille, larger air intakes on the front bumper, and wider front fenders that add 11 mm (0.4 inches) on each side. Side gills and a choice of 19-inch alloy wheels add to the profile, with the option of upgrading to 20-inch alloys or 21-inch forged wheels.

Quad tailpipes and a subtle lip spoiler distinguish the rear end from the standard AMG Line trims. Optional packages, such as the AMG Exterior Night Package (I and II) and the AMG Carbon Exterior Package, provide additional customization with black chrome or carbon fiber accents.

The E53 Hybrid 4Matic+’s interior is opulent, with electrically adjustable AMG sports seats covered in microcut microfiber and man-made Artico leather that is accentuated with red contrast stitching. The dashboard and door cards have hybrid-specific illuminated gray open-pore ash wood trim, and the AMG performance steering wheel is covered in Nappa leather.
