
BMW R 12 G/S Scrambler
BMW has unveiled the R 12 G/S, a scrambler-styled machine built on the R 12 nineT platform. While it shares its engine and main frame with the nineT, it is equipped with off-road-focused upgrades.
BMW R 12 G/S Scrambler: Design and Features
With its rugged design, the BMW R 12 G/S Scrambler stands ready for adventure with minimum bodywork and high stature. Hand protectors and cockpit fairing are standard. The motorcycle sports a 21-inch front wheel, while sizing varies on the package option: the Standard package provides a 17-inch rear wheel, while the Enduro Package Pro supplies this with 18 inches. Seat height ranges from 860mm in standard trim to 875mm with the Enduro Package Pro and up to 890mm with the optional Rallye seat.

Other off-road enhancements in the Enduro Package Pro include off-road pegs, a 20mm handlebar riser, and an additional Enduro Pro riding mode, which comes on top of the standard Rain, Road, and Enduro modes. The suspension features an entirely adjustable USD fork with 200mm travel and a mono-shock with 210mm travel.
BMW R 12 G/S Scrambler: Engine and Performance
The R 12 G/S Scrambler features a 1,170cc air/oil-cooled boxer twin-cylinder engine with the same output as the R 12 nineT. The engine delivers 109hp at 7,000rpm and 115 Nm at 6,500rpm, thus remaining identical to its road-oriented counterpart.
BMW R 12 G/S Scrambler: Weight & Braking
The motorcycle weighs 229 kg, all fueled up, with a 15.5-litre fuel tank. The braking setup has twin 310 mm discs up front with axially mounted Brembo callipers, while the rear has a single 265 mm disc. The complete electronic suite with rider aids from BMW includes traction control, switchable cornering ABS, engine braking control, keyless ignition, and an LED headlight with an optional adaptive function.
Heritage and Market Availability
Inspired by the iconic R 80 G/S, the R 12 G/S Scrambler looks much more like the earlier HP2 Enduro than the modern R 1300 GS. BMW has unveiled the motorcycle in international markets and is yet to announce the launch and pricing details for the Indian market.
