Land Rover has unveiled a new iconic Defender, transforming the legendary 4×4 into a legitimate contender to the Mercedes G-Class.
Land Rover Defender: What do we know so far?
Produced by Land Rover’s Works Bespoke division, it promises to modernize the legendary Defender as much as possible with a redesigned chassis, interior, and exterior.
It is powered by JLR’s ubiquitous naturally aspirated 5.0-litre ‘AJ’ V8, which delivers 405bhp and 380 lb-ft via an eight-speed ZF transmission. Bilstein dampers, Eibach springs, and anti-roll bars are used to help the Defender navigate turns. It also features four-pot Alcon brakes for better stopping capability.

Inside, the Defender’s seats, door cards, roof lining, and dashboard are reupholstered in one of five leather finishes. Two seat styles are available: one focusing on comfort and the other, supplied by Recaro, featuring thicker bolsters and a sportier appearance.
The original deck’s 3.5-inch touchscreen is replaced with a new one that maintains the original’s appearance while adding features like Bluetooth, DAB radio, and sat-nav.
Exterior upgrades include brighter LED headlights and a choice of 16- or 18-inch alloy wheels. Several extras include side steps, a ladder, and LED lamps. Land Rover will also offer paint-to-sample, allowing customers to match the color of their vehicle to whatever they want.
Prices for the Defender V8 by Works Bespoke begin at £190,000 (excluding VAT) for a four-seat 90 variant. The larger five-seat 110 starts at £199,000, while the seven-seater costs £204,000 (excluding VAT).
