Audi is preparing to launch the largest SUV in its history, the Q9. At the very top of the SUV hierarchy, this will be a full-size luxury seven-seater to rival the likes of BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and Range Rover. Here, with spy shots of a production-ready test mule, is what one could expect from Audi’s new flagship.

Audi Q9: Design

Audi’s coming Q9 promises to be the largest SUV in its lineup, bigger, bolder, and built for space. The spy photos showed a stretched wheelbase and long rear overhang, promising generous room in the second and third rows. Though a seven-seat layout might be standard, Audi might offer a six-seat option like the Bentley Bentayga. The styling features are not far from those of the next-gen Q7, such as a massive hexagonal grill, split headlights, full-width light bar at the rear, and quad exhaust tips hint at the SQ9 high-performance version.

Audi Q9: Interior

The Q9 is expected to have a cabin awash with luxury and high-tech goodness. The latest Audi infotainment system, premium materials, and comfort for all passengers will define it. Given its flagship status, it may provide executive seating in higher trims, enhancing rear passenger comfort.

Audi Q9: Powertrain

Incorporated in this Q9 is up to a V8 engine, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-petrol, which all are under Volkswagen’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). All these engines will have plug-in hybrid technology as standard over their range as Audi recalibrates its strategy due to the slowdown of EVs.

Launch & Rivals

The Q9 will be launched in 2026 and will compete against BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and Range Rover. This model targets markets like the US, UK, China, and the UAE, where demand for ultra-luxury SUVs continues to soar.
