Honda has launched the new-generation Amaze 2024 in India, featuring a design that closely resembles the Honda City and Honda Elevate. However, while the exterior has seen updates, the new Honda Amaze offers little to no improvement in terms of performance or specifications.
The company has set an introductory ex-showroom price starting at ₹8 lakh ($ 9,432 estimated). This third-generation shift has brought significant enhancements to the subcompact sedan compared to its predecessor, particularly in terms of looks, interiors, features, and safety system but it retains the same 1.2-liter i-VTEC engine as before but now promises better fuel economy. Therefore, it still begs the question, what is new in the Amaze compared to the previous model? Let us find out.
Honda Amaze Comparison: Old vs. New Exterior Design
The new generation of Amaze embodies improved aesthetics, a departure from the old conventional design. This has borrowed many styling features from the City and the Elevate. Where the previous version of the car only had a single projector light, this new version has two. By the way, the grille is almost identical to those on the Elevate and is more expansive than before compared to the stubby chrome grille of the older model. The LED DRLs now have an eyebrow pattern; the chrome line at the bonnet’s edge has become more prominent.
In the side profile, the new Amaze is fit with a new set of 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The styling of the silhouette between both cars still defines more or less the same line between them. On the other hand, the rear of the new Amaze has new and broader intermittent lights that look like the ones of the City model. However, it contains a few design lighting elements that are different from those of typical buildings. Next, the front and rear are sporty and on the new model, but the conventional bumpers are on the old version.
Honda Amaze Old vs. New Dimensions
Because it is a sub-four meter sedan, the length has been retained. The new Amaze is slightly wider at 1,733 mm, up from its previous 1,695 mm, and is somewhat lower at 1,500 mm, down from the 1,501 mm of its last model. However, the wheelbase stays the same. The gap has been shaved by a whisker to 416 liters to cut on boot space.
Honda Amaze Comparison: Interior
The interior design is a clear move up in the new Amaze, and inspiration from the Elevate is always good. It looks more luxurious and aesthetically pleasing than its predecessor and boasts of possessing more modern technology. Slightly different from the old Amaze, the new cabin comes with an even spartan design with slimline controls for the air-conditioning, a new centrally mounted floating infotainment system, and even a new steering of the City.

New Features & Safety
With the old Amaze featuring a 7-inch infotainment system, the new Amaze gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Other changes include a new semi-digital driver’s display with a 7-inch display, connected car tech with over 37 functions, a new wireless phone charger integrated USB type C charging ports, and six improved speakers instead of 4. While some high-end features have been omitted from the exterior and interiors of the Buick LaCrosse, the following have been retained: auto headlamps, engine start/stop switch, auto paddle shift, cruise control, and power six-way outside rearview mirrors with the auto-folding feature.
As for safety, the new Amaze also boasts 6 airbags, brake assist, ESP, ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, rearview camera with parking sensors, and all three-point seat belts with seat belt reminders for every passenger.
The most significant change in the new Amaze is the integration of the next-generation Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, which is helpful if the lead car is slowing down; lead car departure notification; auto high-beam assist; lane keeping assist; road departure mitigation system; and collision mitigation braking system. It is the first in the segment and the cheapest car to offer ADAS.
Honda Amaze: New Engine Specifications
The new Amaze comes with the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which powers the previous model but delivers the same power output of 90 PS and 110 Nm. Yet the latest model has an enhanced fuel injection ECU and a modified manual gearbox. By the way, the new Amaze is also equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a CVT automatic transmission, according to tradition.
Regarding fuel efficiency, Honda said the new model has a mileage of 18.65 km (MT) and 19.46 km (CVT). In contrast, the old Amaze that was available in the market had a fuel efficiency of 18.6 km (MT) and 18.3 km (CVT). The mileage of CVT on the new Amaze has slightly improved compared to the previous model.
