McLaren has officially introduced the McLaren W1, the latest chapter in its illustrious “1” car lineage, succeeding iconic predecessors like the McLaren F1 and P1. A testament to McLaren’s World Championship mindset, the W1 is a masterpiece of engineering and performance, designed to set new standards in the supercar world.
McLaren W1: Exterior Design
The McLaren W1’s exterior design is an aerodynamic marvel, showcasing elements inspired by Formula 1 technology. A revolutionary feature is the McLaren Active Long Tail rear wing, which extends rearwards by 300mm, providing enhanced downforce when needed. With several patents filed for its advanced active aero features, the W1 stands as McLaren’s most aerodynamic road-legal car to date. The iconic McLaren Anhedral doors are optimized for aerodynamic performance, constructed using motorsport techniques to reduce weight and improve efficiency.
McLaren W1: Interior Design
Inside, the W1 focuses on pure driver engagement. The seating design is integrated into the bespoke McLaren Aerocell carbon fiber monocoque, ensuring the driver is fully connected to the car. Instead of moving the seats, McLaren has opted for a unique approach where the pedals, steering wheel, and primary controls adjust to embrace the driver, creating a cockpit environment that prioritizes control and comfort. A virtually unlimited selection of bespoke options is available through McLaren Special Operations (MSO), offering new tailored materials like McLaren InnoKnit to enhance the luxury feel.

McLaren W1: Powertrain and Performance
At the heart of the McLaren W1 lies an all-new V8 hybrid powertrain, producing an astonishing 1,275 PS. This power is delivered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, with an output of 233 PS per liter—the highest specific output of any McLaren engine. Coupled with a power-dense E-module that adds an additional 347 PS, the W1 boasts the highest power output of any McLaren to date. The combination of the lightweight engineering, an 8-speed gearbox with E-differential, and rear-wheel drive results in a remarkable power-to-weight ratio of 911 PS per tonne, enabling the W1 to accelerate from 0-200 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 350 km/h.
With only 399 units being produced, each already spoken for, the McLaren W1 is a rare and revolutionary supercar that not only builds on McLaren’s motorsport heritage but also pushes the boundaries of automotive technology and performance.
