Jaguar E-type Reborn

Fifty years after the last original Jaguar E-type was produced in Coventry, UK, Jaguar has crafted two special editions of the iconic model. Built by Jaguar Classic, the company’s historic vehicles division, these models were recreated using the original blueprints for a client in Southeast Asia.

Jaguar E-type Reborn: What We Know?

“The only ‘new’ E-types to leave the Jaguar Classic workshop are these, which were inspired by the run-out Series III Commemorative Edition but designed to the original Series I E-type specification,” the company stated.

Both vehicles are E-type drophead coupes, with one finished in Opal Black and the other in Signet Green, two color schemes that were available as options in 1974. With a few contemporary improvements, such as electronic fuel injection in place of the original’s triple SU carbs and a 5-speed manual gearbox instead of the original’s 4-speed, they get their power from the 3.8-litre straight six engines that drove the E-type from 1961 to 1964. Jaguar has not provided a power figure, but it will undoubtedly surpass the 268 horsepower of the Series I.

In an effort to improve use, creature comforts like a heated windscreen and Bluetooth radio have been “discretely” included in the interior, along with other minor modernization efforts.

The Commemorative E-types are also equipped with hand-woven Bridge of Weir tan leather seats, an aluminum center console engraved with an original E-type design plan, and knurled silver toggle switches on the dashboard, all of which are in line with their scarce location. Meanwhile, the ‘growler’ badges have been refurbished in mother-of-pearl and 18-carat gold by the well-known Birmingham jewellery company Deakin & Francis. According to the company, it took more than 2,000 hours to construct each Reborn E-type unit.

Shortly after Jaguar stopped producing the F-Type, the GT’s spiritual descendant, the Commemorative E-Type, was released. Along with the E-Pace crossover and the XE and XF saloons, the last F-Pace SUV units will be delivered to Solihull in the upcoming weeks.
