After nearly two decades of dominance, the Nissan GT-R will be phased out of production in 2025. Nissan has officially closed its order books in Japan, noting, “We have received many orders for the Nissan GT-R, and we have now finished accepting orders for the planned production quantity.” We want to convey our heartfelt gratitude to our many clients for their support since its release in 2007.”
Legacy of the Nissan GT-R
The R35 GT-R debuted in 2007, ushering in a new era for Nissan’s performance lineup. It has a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine and a sophisticated ATTESA all-wheel-drive system, resulting in tremendous performance. The GT-R has seen numerous improvements, with the high-performance NISMO edition producing up to 600 horsepower. Known as ‘Godzilla,’ it became a favorite among tuners, with some modified versions exceeding 2,000 horsepower.

Nissan GT-R: Performance
The GT-R’s cutting-edge AWD technology provided blistering acceleration, with the NISMO version reaching 100 kph in under three seconds. It established new standards in the supercar industry, providing an unrivaled combination of power, handling, and all-weather performance. However, sales began to fall as competitors caught up and harsher laws went into effect. The GT-R was phased out in Europe in 2022, followed by the United States in 2024. It was on sale in India between 2016 and 2022.
The Future
While the GT-R as we know it is ending, Nissan has stated that the iconic moniker will return in all-electric form. As shown in the Hyper Force concept, the next-generation GT-R will use solid-state batteries, which promise longer range and faster charging times than existing lithium-ion technology. The all-electric GT-R, which is expected to debut in 2028, will carry on the tradition of its predecessor, but whether it can live up to the mythology of ‘Godzilla’ is unclear.
