The new Audi R8, with a plug-in hybrid sourced from Lamborghini, will be introduced in 2027. After being discontinued in 2024, the next generation will likely be available in both coupe and cabriolet variants, carrying forward the legacy of high-revving performance. Development is already underway, sponsored by Audi AG Chairman Gernot Döllner, with the assembly at Audi’s Böllinger Höfe facility in Germany.
Powertrain and Performance
The third-generation R8 will likely draw its power from the Lamborghini Temerario, which boasts 920 horsepower and a 4.0-liter V8 hybrid engine. The engine produces 800 hp, and three electric motors add to the power output, with energy coming from the 3.8 kWh battery. The R8 is expected to deliver an under-10-kilometer pure-electric range but accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.

The car will undoubtedly have an all-wheel-drive system with features like the Temerario: two motors on the front axle and a third motor to assist with motor and recovery braking energy.
Over 1,000 hp Possible in R8 Performance Model
Higher-output versions of the Temerario, producing in excess of 1,000 hp, will reach Lamborghini showrooms in 2027, creating an opportunity for a further extreme R8 Performance variant. This variant is likely the most powerful road car from Audi, exceeding the e-tron GT RS.
Revving V8 and Stiffer Chassis
The new R8’s flat-plane crank V8 will keep the high-revving tradition alive, with peak power at 9,000 to 9,750 rpm and a redline of 10,000 rpm. Built on the Temerario’s platform, its aluminum spaceframe is 25 percent more rigid than before, enhancing agility and durability.
